This calculator returns an exact age rather than a rounded one. It counts whole years first, then whole months, then the leftover days, which is the same convention used on official forms and in medical records. The totals underneath convert the same span into days, weeks and hours.
Getting this right means respecting the fact that months have different lengths. A calculator that assumes 30-day months will drift by several days over a lifetime. This one steps through the real calendar, so someone born on 15 June 1990 is 36 years, 1 month, 25 days old on 9 August 2026 — a total of 13,204 days.
Leap days are handled by clamping rather than overflowing. A person born on 29 February has their anniversary on 28 February in common years, so they turn a whole year older on that date rather than skipping to 1 March. This matches how most legal systems treat the date.
The formula
DOB- Date of birth
REF- The date you are measuring age at
Y- Complete years elapsed
M- Complete months after those years
D- Days after those whole months
How it works, step by step
- Enter the date of birth in YYYY-MM-DD form.
- Enter the date to measure against — today, or any past or future date.
- Read the age in years on the gauge.
- The breakdown gives the exact months and days plus lifetime totals.
Worked examples
Born 15 June 1990, measured on 9 August 2026
The exact age is 36 years, 1 month, 25 days. That is 13,204 days, 1,886.3 weeks, or 316,896 hours. The years figure on the gauge shows 36.15 because it includes the part-year.
A leap-day birthday
Someone born on 29 February 2000 is exactly 26 years old on 28 February 2026, with zero months and zero days left over. The calculator clamps the anniversary back to 28 February rather than pushing it forward to 1 March.
How to read your score
Frequently asked questions
Why does my age in years show a decimal?
The gauge shows a continuous age so it can be plotted, so it includes the fraction of the current year you have completed. The exact age line underneath gives the conventional years, months and days.
How are the months counted?
By calendar anniversary, not by a fixed number of days. The calculator finds the largest number of whole months that fits between the two dates, clamping to the end of short months, then counts leftover days.
Does it count leap days in the total?
Yes. The total is a true day count between the two dates, so every 29 February in the span is included. The 13,204 days in the example contains 9 leap years.
Can I use a future date?
Yes. Put a future date in the second field to see how old someone will be then. If the reference date is before the birth date the calculator says so rather than showing a negative age.
